David #3 Cindy Lee Miller Sheehanwas born on July 10, 1957 in Inglewood, California. Her parents were, She graduated, with honors, from Cerritos College and studied history at UCLA. In 1997 she married Patrick Sheehan. They had four children including, Casey Sheehan who was killed in Iraq by the Mahdi Army on April 4, 2004.
Shelby- #4 Accounts of Cindy Sheehan's Actions In the Media On Saturday, August 13, 2005, the article, Cindy Sheehan's Pitched Battle, was published in the Washinton Post. The article starts off by describing how Cindy Sheehan's anti war efforts started out as a small capmaign that demanded a meeting with President Bush, and has now accomplished receiving a lot of media attention. She was even featured on a television ad. This article continues to discuss how Sheehan has paraded across the counrty for over a year while searching for answers from President Bush on why he is waging a war that she strongy disagrees with. In 2004, her son, Casey Sheehan was killed while serving in this war. As the atricle mentions, Sheehan's actions have encouraged other anti war protesters, such as Code Pink, a woman's anti war group to set up a tent near Sheehan's. On a television campaign ad, she exclaimed, "Mr. President, I want to tell you face to face how much this hurts. How many more of our loved ones need to die in this senseless war?"In an online version of the American Spectator, it stated, "Despite what the headlines say, Sheehan, 48, is more antiwar protester than grieving mother." Another article, from the Village Voice News, titled, Cindy Sheehan Pledges Civil Disobedience Campaign, also discussed her anti war protests. It was written on October 18, 2005. Sheehan joined up with the Grandmothers Against the War. Apparently, the NYPD cut off her microphone during a speech in the Union Square. When she was with the Grandmothers Against the War at Rockefeller Center, the article said it was more of a "love fest" than a protest even though Sheehan still had a slew of fighting words toward President Bush. The article had a quote from her saying, "I think that if anybody wants to run for president 2008, then they have to come out against the war, and if they don't, then we don't support them. Shelby #6Opposing View on Cindy Sheehan's ActionsThe article, The Attack Machine versus Cindy Sheehan, was written on August 11, 2005 by Brenden Nyhan. This expressed opposition towards Cindy Sheehan's anti war actions. It contains a variety of quotes from those such as Bill O' Reilly saying, "I think Mrs. Sheehan bears some responsibility for this publicity and also for the responsibility for the other American families who lost sons and daughters in Iraq who feel this kind of behavior is treasonous." A writer in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution published this which expressed their feelings of Sheehan being a traitor, "The insurgents were Casey's enemy. The president of the United States is his mother's. What is wrong with this picture? Would he be proud of her near treasonous actions? Hardly. This woman is a representative example of typical, illogical, anti war activists. She thinks Bush, not the terrorists kiled her son.She supports those who killed Casey by wanting to pull out and let them kill more innicent people, unhindered. The lady is on the wrong team. She's disgraceful. If Sheehan wants to continue to make a fool out of herself, i suppose that is her business as a free American. Her son and our brave troops have given her even the right to orderly protest against the very actions providing the freedom that allows her to speak out. My suggestion to her, however, is that she think about the lives of those still in Iraq. Undermining public support for our efforts in Iraq helps the enemy, her son's murderers. They love people like her, but hate those heroic like her son." Jesus Ortiz- #14Cindy Sheehan was an inspiring woman who had inspired many works of literature. One work of literature that she inspired was a play called "Peace Mum". This play was preformed in the University of Victoria Applied and was written by Monica Prendergast. Cindy Sheehan also inspired the article CINDY SHEEHAN: MOTHER OF A MOVEMENT?( by Karen Hauppert). This article praises her speaking skills and her efforts to raise an anti-war campaign. Cindy Sheehan has also inspired many more works of literature like the ones stated and most of them describe her as a courageous and valliant woman. David #11 Cindy Sheehan was charged with Unlawful Conduct, with a penalty of up to a one-year in prison. Many people against Cindy called her; a liar, traitor, a left wing fanatic, and a leader of the "culture of corruption". Later, Sheehan supporters found that she had not broken any laws during her speech. She was never placed in prison and all charges were dropped.
Shelby #7Cindy Sheehan's Civil DisobedienceCindy Sheehan camped out near the President George W. Bush's home in Crawford, Texas. What was she doing there? She was protesting against the war in Iraq, and refused to leave her "campsite" until Bush talked to her about the U.S. policy in Iraq. When Bush never agreed to talk to her, she moved her protests to Wahington D.C. There, she was arrested while giving an anti war demonstration outside the White House on September 26, 2005. Sheehan was arrested once again on Janurary 31, 2006 and charged with unlawful conduct by showing an anti war slogan while attending the State of the Union's Address. Her protests continued until May 2007, when she decided to return to her private life. She was nicknamed, the "Peace Mom." Some consider her protests to be a lack of support for the troops who were stilll fighting. As they risked their lives to protect her, she protested against them being there. This could have lowered the spirit of our soldiers. Jesus Ortiz- #151) What event in this person's life could have caused them to commit this act of civil disobidence?2) Do you agree with this person's act of civil disobidence? Why or Why not?Jesus Ortiz- #131) Cindy Sheehan affected Bush by criticizing him about the war in Iraq in public. This hurt Bush's popularity during his presidency 2) Cindy Sheehan also affected Obama by criticizing him about war in public. This is hurting his popularity as president.Shelby #10Thoreau and SheehanHenry David Thoreau wrote, From Civil Disobedience. In this writing he says, "For it matters not how small the beginning may seem to be: what is once well done is done forever." This can relate back to Cindy Sheehan's actions because she simply started out as a small protester. Because she was successful with those protests, she gained more attention and prospered with her cause. Her anti war actions are still affecting people today. Just as the quote says, her small starting actions ended up as permanent influence to other anti war protesters. It was a little action, and because it was done well, it will last. Sam #13Many people have been affected by what Cindy Sheehan has done. One of the people that Cindy has affected the most was former president George W. Bush how he was affected was she critized him about the war in Iraq which hurt his presidency. How this hurt his presidency was that she feels people should be equal, people no matter what country they live in should not be killing other people. Another person that Cindy Sheehan has affected is President Barack Obama. What she believes is that the U.S. army is being used for is to spread a corporate imperialism, which will probably hurt Obama's presidency.Sam#9After Cindy Sheehans son's death while fighting in Iraq in 2004, she has attracted national and international media attention in August 2005 for her extended anti-war protest. What she has been trying to tell people such as George W. Bush and Barack Obama is that our troops need to come home, this is a senseless war she states. But what may you ask is Cindy Sheehan trying to achieve? Well what Cindy is trying to tell everyone that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan should soon come to an end. The war is pointless she says, she believes that the war is nothing but a lie. Thousands of people have died in this war but for our country right? Well according to Sheehan all the troops have died for no reason she says there is nothing to be fighting over. She strongly believes that nobody really knows whats going on with this war. People are just killing innocent people which isn't the point of this war. Now that many people have heard about Sheehans story they are believing her side while others disagree. So has she changed anything about this war? Well she has put the thought into peoples heads about how pointless this war is and how poor innocent people are dying for nothing. --
